One of the risk factors to consider when seeking a flood insurance quote is storm-related flooding.
According to FEMA, storm-related flooding is any high-flow, overflow, or inundation of water, as a result of any disturbed state of the atmosphere (tornadoes and thunderstorms) that causes or threatens damages.
Because flood damage usually is not covered under a typical property insurance policy, flood insurance is available from many insurance companies and is guaranteed by the NFIP. Generally, flood insurance covers storm-related flooding damage to an insured’s structure and contents in the structure, provided that the damage is caused by water that has been on the ground at some point before damaging a building. However, storm-related damage to property outside of the structure, such as a storage shed or lawn furniture, is not covered. Storm-related damage has little to no impact on the premiums paid for coverage
Storm-related flooding is an important factor for a potential purchaser when purchasing flood insurance.
